The Best Laid Plans...

Progress is being made on our library! (read here for more about this summer's projects)  It's slow progress, but every project needs to start somewhere.

At our last meeting we found a nice sectional couch for a great deal and our principal agreed to buy it.  Today was supposed to be our delivery day between 1:00 and 3:00.  Six students, an extra custodian, and another teacher and I were all ready and waiting.  We got there at noon and with a few instructions on the plan for the day, the students got to work.  As always, the students made me proud to be working with them as they took charge and started getting things done with little guidance needed from me.

Computers, tables, and chairs were moved.  Books were consolidated on shelves to allow for the eventual removal of a couple of bookcases.  Pizza was eaten. The floor around where the new couch was to go was even vacuumed.

Then...we waited...and waited some more.

Finally at 2:30 I made some calls to figure out an ETA since several students had work or needed to call for rides.  I discovered that our couch shipped!  But that it's sitting somewhere in a warehouse in Chicago.  I'm currently waiting on a call back to figure out the mix up and what's going to be done about it.  With the work day now coming to a close however, I'm not hopeful on hearing anything until after the holiday weekend.

Though it was a bit of a let down after everyone being so excited to put in our first new piece of furniture, I'm trying to remember that every project has a lesson to be learned and I've gotten a valuable one today. When working with an unknown vendor, call to confirm delivery before they're supposed to show up.
